OverviewCoffee connoisseurs know their coffee. The roast of the bean is one of the most important factors in obtaining excellent coffee flavor, and anyone who values his java knows how important the roast is when it comes to creating coffee drinks. You don’t have to be a professional coffee roaster to roast your own beans. With a little knowledge, you can create a variety of coffee bean roasts at home that will suit any coffee drink you want to make.Step 1Gather your essentials. You will need enough airtight glass jars to store your freshly roasted coffee beans. You will also want to start with green coffee beans. You can purchase these from several online suppliers, usually in bulk at a discount (see resources).Step 2Place your green coffee beans on a flat metal cookie sheet. Spread the green beans evenly, and spray with a light coat of water. Be sure the beans don’t overlap.Step 3Heat your oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Place your tray of green coffee beans into the oven on the middle rack and let them roast from five to seven minutes. You’ll hear the first crack. Give the beans two more minutes, and check the color. You should open the oven only briefly to do this. A medium roast should take about 12 minutes. You can raise the temperature of your oven about 10 degrees if it takes longer. You don’t want the roasting process to last more than 20 minutes.Step 4Remove your beans from the oven when they are slightly lighter in color than the roast color you desire. This is because the roasting process continues a few minutes after the beans are removed from the oven.Step 5Pour your beans in a colander and shake them to remove the chaff that comes off the beans during the roasting process, then allow the beans to stand for 12 hours before you place the finished product in airtight jars. This allows the carbon dioxide to dissipate.skill3ingredientgreen coffee beans
