How to Replace a Car Bumper
You can do this simple auto repair project without taking your car to a body shop. Start by finding a new bumper, then follow these instructions.

OverviewReplacing a car bumper is a simple procedure that can be done at home without a large number of tools. The hardest part of replacing a bumper is actually finding the new bumper. Once a replacement bumper has been either ordered from an auto parts store or found in a junkyard, replacing it should take no more than an hour even for a beginner to auto repair.Step 1Look underneath the bumper of the car to find the bolts that hold the bumper on. On most cars, there will be about four bolts held on with lug nuts. Using a flashlight will make this task much easier.Step 2Spray WD-40 or other lubricant onto the lug nuts and let it soak in for five minutes. This is to help loosen up the bolts and lug nuts as they may be rusty and difficult to remove.Step 3Use a wrench to remove the lug nuts one by one. The size of wrench necessary for this job will be determined by the size of the lug nuts on your particular car. Once you have loosened the nut with the wrench, you should be able to easily spin it off the rest of the way with your fingers.Step 4Carefully lift the bumper up and away from the car now that the lug nuts have been removed. This step may require two people as the bumper will be heavy and awkward.Step 5Remove the bolts from the old bumper.Step 6Place the bolts into the new bumper. If the new bumper came with its own hardware, skip this step.Step 7Line the bolts in the new bumper up with the same holes on the car you removed the bolts from. Set the bumper into place making sure all of the bolts have gone through the proper holes.Step 8Attach the lug nuts to the bottoms of the bolts and tighten them with the wrench to ensure the new bumper is held onto the car securely.skill1ingredientFlashlight
