How to Plan a Wedding on a Budget

Start planning an economical wedding without being overly low-budget by asking a friend to be a free wedding planner and hosting the event at an outdoor location that doesn’t have to be rented.

OverviewMost brides dream of a beautiful, flawless fairy tale wedding ever since they were little girls. If your time has finally come to be the bride, you probably realize that you didn’t think about the budget until you actually began planning your wedding. All the expenses can quickly add up to a large sum. Reality hits and you realize you cannot have everything you want, so you must pick and choose how you want to spend your money. With some planning, you can still have a beautiful wedding that you will cherish for years to come, but on a budget.Step 1Get family members and other volunteers to help you out on your wedding day. Put together a team and assign tasks to each person. Make a responsible person the coordinator, so that if anyone on the team has questions, they can go to that person on the wedding day instead of you. You can save some money this way by not having to hire a wedding coordinator and other staff.Step 2Use an open space such as a park to keep the ceremony, or use a family member or friend’s backyard. This will save you some money instead of renting an expensive ballroom or other venue space.Step 3Ask a friend or acquaintance to make your wedding cake for you instead of going to a bakery. An alternative is to ask a baker to design a cake where only one layer is real cake and the other layers can be fake. This is an option many brides are choosing because usually one tier is enough to serve guests. It’s also a cheaper option without having to compromise the look of your cake.Step 4Use flowers from your garden or the local farmers’ market and have your team incorporate them into your centerpieces, bouquet, and other aspects of the wedding. See the References section for ideas.Step 5Choose less expensive centerpiece designs since flowers can be costly. For example, you can use floating candles in a glass bowl surrounded by rose petals. To give it some color, you can even color the water. You can also use pictures in photo frames as centerpieces. Or put your wedding favors at the center of each table, so that they double up as your centerpieces and favors.Step 6Search online for relatively cheap wedding favors (see References). You can also bake cookies or other edibles with your monogram on them as your wedding favors.skill5ingredientTeam of helpers
