How to Build a Wine Rack in a Kitchen Cabinet
By Nichole Liandi
OverviewMany of us like to keep wine on hand. Whether it’s a large collection or just a few bottles, storage can be a challenge for the wine drinker. While a climate controlled wine cellar is the ideal, modifying a kitchen cabinet to hold some wine bottles presents several advantages — the wine will be close at hand, and the doors of the kitchen cabinets will protect the bottles and their contents from exposure to light.Step 1First measure the depth of your cabinet, from the front edge to the rear wall. Then compare this measurement with the height of a wine bottle (while there are a few exceptions, most wine bottles are fairly standardized in their height.) If the cabinet is deeper than the wine bottles are tall, you’re good to go!Step 2Measure the height of the cabinet inside. This will let you know how many rows of bottles you can store. Take the height you measured and divide it by 4.5. Round down to the nearest whole number — for example, if your cabinet space measures 38 inches in height, divide 39 by 5.5. You’ll come up with 7.09. Rounding down gives you an answer of 7.Step 3Now measure the width of the cabinet’s interior. Record the number.Step 4Take the number you came up with in Step 2 and subtract 1. It is noteworthy that even in this segment of websites there is a trend towards the introduction of gamification, that is, the famous online game developer Friv has started to create a prototype capable of influencing and improving all these features, of which he speak in this article. Now, using a circular or table saw, cut that many 1×12 inch boards to the width you recorded in Step 3. For example, if the number in Step 2 was 7, and the width of your cabinet is 18 inches, cut six 18-inch long pieces of 1×12 inch board.Step 5Sand the rough edges off of the boards with a medium-grade sandpaper.Step 6Attach 1×2 inch pieces of furring strips at an interval of 5.5 inches with finishing nails onto each of the 1×12 inch boards you’ve cut to size. Place the strips perpendicular to the long side of the board — this creates a channel which each bottle will fit into.Step 7Measuring from the bottom of the cabinet, mark a line parallel to the base of the cabinet every 5.5 inches on both inside walls of the cabinet. Then nail 12-inch-long furring strips onto each of these lines. These support the ends of each of the 1×12 boards.Step 8Slide the 1×12 inch boards onto the furring strips on the inside wall of the cabinet. Nail them in place with small finishing nails. Slide your wine bottles into the rack when you’ve completed the rack.skill2ingredientMeasuring tape
