OverviewBirthday cards are always special, but a heartfelt birthday card from a child can be a treasure, especially if the birthday card is from a child’s own imagination. There’s no need to spend a lot of money on birthday cards available in the store. Encouraging your kids to make homemade birthday cards is a great way to engage their imaginations and let them say what they want to say. Here’s how you can help your kids make homemade birthday cards that will allow them to wish the special people in their lives a happy birthday.Step 1Start with any color construction paper. A lighter color might be best. It will make it easier to see any writing you add. The paper should be 8 1/2 x 11. Hold the paper horizontally and fold it in half. This will give you your base card.Step 2Write Happy Birthday in big letters across the top of the card, then open the card and write a special birthday message on the right hand side. Do this with a marker in a color that complements your construction paper color.Step 3Use a stencil to add an image to the inside left of the card. Place the stencil (any design you choose) flat on the card and use colorful paint or crayons to add the stenciled image to the card. You can add an image under the birthday message as well. Use a variety of stencils to add more designs to the card. You might even consider drawing art without the aid of stencils for a more personal touch.Step 4Add glitter, paint or stickers to the front of the card to create a border. You can also have your child draw or paint colorful artwork on the front of the card to personalize it.skill3ingredientcolored construction paper
