OverviewYou can make fresh, creamy ice cream at home with just a few simple ingredients and without an ice cream maker. Expend some energy and some calories as you shake your way to a delicious reward. Kids will especially enjoy this fun way to make this simple but tasty dessert. This recipe uses vanilla flavoring, but you can experiment with other flavors and colors and can even substitute milk for cream for a lower calorie treat.Step 1Put the small serving bowl in your freezer so it will be cold and not melt the ice cream when it’s ready.Step 2Pour 1/3 cup of cream into the mixing bowl. You may use milk or half and half, but the higher the fat content, the creamier the ice cream will be.Step 3Add sugar to the cream 1 tsp. at a time. Stir and taste the mixture, adding more sugar to taste. You probably won’t need more than 5 tsp. in your mixture.Step 4Add a drop of vanilla flavoring to the mixture, and stir and taste. Repeat, adding one drop at a time, until the flavor reaches the intensity you want. You probably won’t need more than 10 drops of flavoring.Step 5Add a drop of food coloring to your mixture if desired. Stir and repeat until you are happy with the results.Step 6Fill your large ziplock bag half full with crushed ice. Pour 1/2 cup salt over the ice.Step 7Pour your cream mixture into the small zip-top bag and squeeze most of the air out of the bag before closing it. Turn the bag around several times to check for leaks.Step 8Put the bag of cream mixture inside the bigger bag and surround it with the ice and salt. Seal the bag and put that bag inside another large bag. Wrap them in a towel and shake gently for a few minutes.Step 9Check on the ice cream to see if it is freezing yet. If it is, start shaking it again, but a lot harder and faster. Keep shaking for 5 minutes and check on it again to see if it has frozen. Keep shaking if it’s not.Step 10When your ice cream is frozen, take it out of the large bags. Before opening your ice cream bag, rinse it with cold water and wipe with a towel to clean any salt off. Get your bowl out of the freezer and scoop the ice cream into the bowl. Enjoy!skill2ingredient1/3 cup heavy cream
